Job Description:
POSITION TITLE: Intern – PBS KIDS Interactive (Fall)
DEPARTMENT: PBS KIDS Interactive
STATUS: Part-time/Temporary
SALARY: Credit Only
EDUCATION/MAJOR:
Must have completed one year of college and must be currently enrolled in school (undergraduate or graduate);
Information Architecture, Interactive Design, Digital Media, Educational Technology, Communications, Education or related majors preferred.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Proficiency in HTML authoring (with and without an HTML editor);
Familiarity with Web technologies;
Familiarity with interactive gaming;
Familiarity with managing assets;
Understanding of organization and navigation of interactive content;
An understanding and appreciation for the convergence of television and Web content;
Excellent writing and communication skills;
Superior organizational skills and orientation to details;
Must be a strategic thinker who can meet aggressive deadlines;
Ability to plan, problem solve, and prioritize several assignments at the same time;
Strong listening and presentation skills, including the ability to manage production critique.
JOB DUTIES :
Manage and refresh databases that coordinate games and features across pbskids.org, pbskidsgo.org and PBS Parents;
Participate in tagging and cataloguing games and features across pbskids.org, pbskidsgo.org and PBS Parents;
Contribute to updating design and information in our policy and production manual for PBS KIDS Interactive producers;
Evaluate and test producer sites and games to ensure they meet PBS KIDS editorial and technical guidelines;
Participate with PBS KIDS online team group projects and discussions, stay up-to-date on research and related trends, and contribute to vision and strategy;
Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE INTERN MIGHT GAIN:
Knowledge of the interactive production process;
Knowledge of Content Management strategies;
Insight into the discourse of media for children. You’ll especially gain an understanding of educational and usability concerns when designing websites and games for kids;
Experience managing dual platform media expectations;
Basic knowledge of the public media industry.
